When I agreed to run a mile for every like on Facebook, Google +, and Instagram as part of my run training for my upcoming marathon, I NEVER imagined I'd be slated with 212 miles to do as part of my February "Mile for a Like" Challenge--- but I am so thankful, so grateful, and so appreciative that you guys did, because it's been instrumental in motivating me to push myself during my run training!
I hit the roads for today's run this morning, wracking up a total of 22 more miles. I'm not the kind of person that looks out the window and says "nope, not running today, too much snow." There's not much that will stop me from getting in my scheduled run... but, I must admit, I am just oh so very tired of looking at the snow day after day after day! I'm longing for the warm summer days when I can run on green trails, working up a good sweat... you know, the kind of sweat that doesn't immediately freeze to my skin!
Oh well... I'll keep toughing the weather out as I keep busting out the mileage! I'm proud to report that I officially have less than 100 miles left to go for my February challenge, and I have to complete, on average, less than 5 miles each day to achieve that goal! No problem--- I got this in the bag!

February Challenge: Day 2--- Knocked Out ANOTHER 15 Miles!
Happy Groundhog's Day everyone! Well--- did I call it or did I call it? I guess Punxatawny Phil really did hear about my 212 "Mile for a Like" challenge as I train for my upcoming marathon, and he was scared straight back into his groundhog hole! Poor little bugger! So, sorry guys, but it looks like we'll be having six more weeks of winter! Hehehe.
Sundays are typically my "long run" days on my workout schedule, but I've been a little bit off my schedule due to my physical therapy. Long story short, once I started feeling up to doing long runs again, I just couldn't wait until my scheduled long run on a Sunday to have at it! So, despite doing a long run yesterday, I opted to do another one today. Yup, that's right, I knocked another 15 miles outta the park this morning! Woot! On top of it, I cranked out an awesome weightlifting workout when I got home from my run. I worked out my back and my biceps today, and you can bet I'll be feeling sore for tomorrow's run!
That leaves a total of 182 miles to go, making for an even average of 7 miles a day! Yeowza! I'm closer to fulfilling my challenge than I was yesterday, but I've still got a long way to go (literally!). BUT--- that is how challenges are accomplished and goals are achieved, day by day and mile by mile. It was in the mid 30s again outside today, but it's looking like it's going to snow tonight. So tomorrow's run will most likely be a snowy one as well as a sore one!
Check back tomorrow for another update!

February Challenge: 15 Miles Down, 197 To Go!
I hit the ground running on day one of my February "Mile for a Like" Challenge (resulting in a whopping total of 212 miles slated for me!). I donned my cold weather gear bright (okay, the sun was barely up--- so maybe not so bright!) and early this morning, and I busted out a 15 mile run right out of the gate. That leaves 197 miles still left to go throughout the month, so I'll have to keep busting out the high mileage runs hardcore!
| Muddy Melissa--- saying hello on day one of my February Challenge! |
It was a gorgeous day outside today. Sure, it's still cold out there--- but this mid 30 degree weather seems downright tropical in comparison to the negative 5 degree weather I was zipping around in last week! The snow on the trails was mostly melted, so it made for easier running--- although I do miss the feeling of breaking in that crisp snow first thing in the morning, leaving a lone set of footprints trailing behind me! There's no better feeling than that for a trail runner like me!
My hip seems to be almost fully rehabbed now; this is yet another long run I've done, without any pain whatsoever. I still have two more physical therapy appointments, and I'm continuing my stretches/exercises, but the hip pain has, for the most part, disappated. Thank goodness! Because I am not letting anything slow me down for my February challenge, for my marathon training, or for anything else--- ever!--- for that matter.
Keep checking back for updates on my 212 miles in February challenge!
